Power outages!

Published by at 3:00 am under Why?!?

I was sitting at my desk tonight, working on the computer when all of a sudden – total darkness. I’m not going to lie, it was creepy for a minute. Luckily I have the “flashlight” application on my iPhone which simply turns the screen white, providing just enough light to get around. I got some candles and sat in the cold darkness (no heat without power) for 2 hours like an Amish dude.

You really take things like electricity for granted until it’s gone. I could not do anything. I could not even get my car out of the garage. Well, if I wasn’t too lazy to manually pull up the door I could have gotten my car out but what am I, Amish?

I realized that I have not sat in a quiet room doing nothing for… I don’t know, ever? It kind of made me feel dumb that something so simple was completely throwing my night into a tailspin.

This was a boring post but keep in mind I have just been through a traumatic disaster!

I’ve always thought of you as Amish. It just makes sense.

A couple weeks ago, my furnace busted and we had to wait 72 hours for the new motor to arrive to be installed (forced to pay a rush order or wait an addition three days). It occurred when the recent cold front hit and with kids, it was a massive bitch. The situation made me REALLY appreciate heat and having a home.

After that massive bill, I donated what I could to the homeless. Then I felt like a total asshole for not making an annual contribution or volunteering.

I love power outages, truth be told. It forces society to “get analog” for a bit, which has a certain, albeit temporary, centering effect. All the sudden neighbors are helping neighbors and you have to get creative.

A few years ago, a spring camping trip went bust on account of like 12 inches of rain in two days, so we all decided to have an ‘indoor camping’ long weekend at my house – which turned out to be a tradition. No use of refrigerator, stove – anything… Just candles, card games, guitars and the outdoor fire pit for cookin’. Anyone who accidentally flipped on a light, opened the fridge, or otherwise made use of electricity had to drink – regardless of the hour.

Sorry you were bummed about the power outage, man… next time, just make sure you have ample candles and a good book to read.

    You Amish fuck!

You have an iPhone, you don’t need to be sitting around staring into the dark shivering when you can watch youtube, play a game and the like, I know mine has saved me on many occasions from boredom (every day on my hour and a half train ride to and from the city)…in saying that, if your battery was dead, then I don’t know what you could have done, you’d be helpless and bored, you’d have to resort to the low tech option of a book…madness!

Death, my phone was running out of juice but I did manage to play blackjack and darts for a while. I was just about to get a book when the power came back.

Neish, I was alone but did consider a solo session.

You gotta look on the upside of power outages. If you have a bigger house, hide and seek gets much more interesting when you have probable reason to feel like a spy.

Sex was also on my top list *High fives Neish!*.

And the last time I encountered a power outage a bunch of my cousins met up at the same house and we had the most ultimatus spit ball fight ever, complete with messy forts!

Get cr e a attitive. Make your own fun next time, at least it’ll help ya stay warm 🙂

    Mmmm, Sex..

There’s a pretty good chance that when the power goes out, that’s what we’re doing anyhow.. Hell, it might be WHY the power goes out!

    I love sex!
