Wow… This past weekend, while on a white water rafting trip with a bunch of friends up in the Sierras, we got to talking about Bob Ross – mostly because some of the scenes looked just like his paintings, or vice versa I guess.
Which reminded me of a party I was at back in my home town on Cape Cod one summer… A bunch of us were hanging out in the basement room, and I was looking at this painting over the couch for a while (may or may not have been completely stoned), and then I see it: Bob Ross’s signature. Yup, sure enough, it was authentic. So we got more high in his honor.
John Kilduff is sort of the new Bob Ross and the anti-Bob Ross at the same time. What Bob Ross did with the surprising calm swiftness of a brush, John Kilduff makes up for in some of the worst frantic, labored multi-tasking ever committed to video. Also, I don’t think Bob Ross ever had to take listener calls inquiring about his “invisible man being raped” – Joe, were you on the line? I hope you are taking inspiration from both your TV painter mentors by creating your Olive Garden mural homage to Bob Ross while on a treadmill in a suit in the spirit of John “we’re gonna do it all” Kilduff.
Bob Ross was the man! I’d forgo watching Saturday morning cartoons and watch his show when it came on at 10am on Channel 6 in Sacramento.I wish PBS would rerun his show just so I’d have something calm to watch after a horrible day at work.
Jen – I have only been to OG 3 or 4 times and have to admit, we usually go as a joke. “Hey wanna go to Olive Garden because we are cool and better than everyone?” We go as a joke BUT end up eating like pigs because its hard to deny that the food tastes good. It’s not GOOD food, but it does TASTE good!
