Frank Gehry and his piece of shit, ugly ass buildings!

Published by at 3:00 am under I Don't Get It,Jerks,Why?!?

I haven’t even finished typing this sentence and already my blood is boiling from having to look at this ass clown’s shitty building. I mean look at this crooked hunk of crap he designed for The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Is he blind but nobody wants to hurt his feelings? Maybe he’s like that kid from The Twilight Zone who can turn you into a donkey or a house plant with his mind if you make him mad or disagree with him. Or maybe he’s like a drunk frat boy who wakes up after a weekend of beer-bonging and realizes “Shit dude, I totally have a building design due today!”

The best part about this building? M.I.T. had to sue Frank Gehry because this tangled mess leaks and generally sucks ass. It literally says “sucks ass” in the lawsuit!

Don’t try and tell me he’s breaking new ground and pushing the envelope because you are wrong. Frank Gehry is concerned with one thing, Frank Gehry’s checkbook. He knows he can literally take a dump on a table and some stupid mayor who is afraid of looking uncool will agree to spend $500 million to build a turd-shaped building. Have you ever seen the back of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and Bandshell in Chicago? If you think the front is ugly, which it is, take a look at the back sometime and you will see a perfect illustration of how fucking lazy this jerk is.

Fuck Frank Gehry! I’m right and I know everything.

His work is infuriating and horrifying. And just terrible (among other things)…..

I have to ride past that MIT building every day and it’s much, much worse close up. It looks like it’s 33 years old, not 3 years old.

Will you pee and/or poop on the M.I.T. building for me. I will pay you!

Regardless of style, all great architecture manifests a simple, harmonious geometry and sublime play of proportion (based, for example, on the classical Golden Section). Frank Gehry, on the other hand, composes with the instinct of a sculptor/decorator. He piles things on a model until he is satisfied with the effect, rather like a crow decorating its nest with bits of aluminum foil and other shiny junk. Scaled up and built, the structure demands attention because it alienates everything around it, rather like a drunk at a stadium. Bluster does not equal significance, however, and may in fact only serve to distract from underlying weaknesses.

With the next change of fashion, perhaps Gehry’s work will be recognized for what it is: decadent architecture. Then compared to talents like Palladio, Sir Christopher Wren, Frank Lloyd Wright or Louis I. Kahn, Gehry will indeed be seen to suck ass.

Person of Interest, Very nicely stated. I would have to say that we need not wait for history to expose Gehry’s suck-ass-itude, the writing is already on the wall, the ugly metal curvy wall.

    5. Buckedon 07 Mar 2009 at 1:10 am

If you lay a turd in the punchbowl, the turd will get attention. Gehry lays that turd out in public and soils any neighborhood he lays siege to, demanding that you notice his bowel movement. Most people recognize his buildings as the pieces of shit that they are. It’s just too bad that you can’t pull the flush lever.

Bucked – thumbs up, I could not agree more!

His buildings suck about as much as most buildings, his just look so much cooler.

Frank Gehry cool? Frank Gehry sucks more suck than anyone who has ever sucked. Fuck that turd.

Well, I like Frank Gehry. I think it is interesting he does what he wants to do. some of his stuff looks really weird but when you enter it is gorgeous. have your read Atlas Shrugged? maybe you should.

I moved out of NYC just because his ugly ass AIC building was making me puke every time I passed by it… and its on the fucking west highway!!! it was a nightmare… and the gugenheim NYC ( not bilbao of course eeeew) , which is only fabulousnes and proportion is hidden somewhere in the city…. OMG americans have no taste!

    11. Sirentyon 05 Jan 2010 at 3:49 pm

all u people have no taste in building he is the best peron to be building buildings if u knew anything at all about art he is so crative and he thinks outside the box he is the best i have ever seen in any art class i have ever been in so all of u should go fuck ur selves up the ass

    12. You Just Made My List!on 05 Jan 2010 at 5:19 pm

Sirenty – Please please PLEASE tell me you are either 6-years-old or that English is not your first language. Otherwise, I guess you just showed everyone what kind of a dipshit likes Frank Gehry.

      I rule.

    13. Zailaon 01 Feb 2010 at 6:47 pm

I like Frank Gehry. If you even had the decency to actually gain knowledge of him and his works you probably wouldnt be such as fuck ass bastard. And you can maybe, with even the smallest resemblance of decency, thoughtfully disagree with his works. There is a lot more too them than you think. His concepts are beautifully articulated and though these buildings are crazy and wild, they are probably the most thought out, intentional and functional buildings there are. So it would seem that you are the fuck turd for the inability to learn about the world.

    14. You Just Made My List!on 01 Feb 2010 at 9:44 pm

Zaila – I can tell you are highly intelligent from your use of “fuck ass” and “fuck turd” so it will be hard to debate you. Although, I would have gone with “turd fuck” since you already used “fuck ass,” but what do I know?

Frank Gehry’s buildings are “probably the most thought out, intentional and functional buildings there are.” Based on what exactly? You’re crazy imagination? Wait, I just figured it out, you are an insane homeless person who thinks buildings talk to you. OK, now I understand why you love that turd fuck Frank Gehry.

      P.S. I hate you.

    15. Mikeon 06 Feb 2010 at 5:50 pm

Actually, the best part of the Pritzker Pavilion are the structural components at the back. You’re spot on about Gehry and his checkbook though – he hires and fires his poorly paid minions like they were the tide. Sirenty’s probably that asshole whose dad is still supporting him so he can take the jobs of three people who really need the money.

    16. Lizon 01 Mar 2010 at 10:40 pm

Maybe you should watch ‘Sketches by Frank Gehry’. You can see that a lot of time and effort is spent on each design, he doesn’t just throw stuff together.

Why shouldn’t we have some variety to architecture?

You’re basically saying all art should look the same. Also, an old building is going to leak no matter what shape it is.

You’re just jealous because he’s making lots of money doing something he likes and you’re not. And if you were, you wouldn’t be bitching on here, you’d be out working at that job.

    17. You Just Made My List!on 01 Mar 2010 at 10:51 pm

Liz – First of all, the most annoying and unoriginal thing angry commenters ALWAYS say is that “I’m jealous.” Are you “jealous” of everything YOU dislike? Guess what idiot, I make a lot of money doing exactly what I want to be doing. I don’t live in my mom’s basement, I’m not overweight, I’m not ugly, I have a hot girlfriend and I have a ton of friends. Jealous?

Secondly, how am I basically saying I want all art to look the same? I’m simply saying it shouldn’t look like shit.

I’ve seen that piece of shit documentary about that piece of shit and it just made me hate him more.

      Go away.

    18. YouSuckon 01 Jul 2010 at 12:02 pm

You people are idiots. You say Gehry sucks for his “buildings”. Gehry doesn’t build buildings. He draws designs. His clients build buildings. He designs what they want. If you want to trash someone, trash the clients for asking for the design. You give architects too much power. We are just whores for our clients.

    19. You Just Made My List!on 01 Jul 2010 at 4:11 pm

YouSuck – I honestly have to say that your comment might be the dumbest I have ever received. You are an idiot.

    20. gipson88on 31 Aug 2010 at 9:47 pm

#You Just Made My List!-You are my hero lol. Of course Frank Gehry sucks, I mean this dude puts piece of shit after piece of shit up one after another. His Canadian ass should be building that shit over in Canada where he belongs, but America is eating this shit up. 100 years from now people will study architecture and Frank Gehry will be revered as the biggest asshole to ever design anything. I truly believe that if you put Frank Gehry in a design competition with all of his resources, against a 3 year old with LEGOS, that the kid would come out on top.

    21. Jesseon 15 Oct 2010 at 9:04 pm

H doesn’t ‘think outside the box’. Obviously he has no taste, his buildings don’t operate properly, his L.A concert hall increases the temperature of a rw of houses facing it by 15 degrees. His building in Mass suffers leakage and mold. Yet he is celebrated. He’s clearly an egotistical fuckwit. He DOES NOT THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX any more than Katy Perry or Lady Gaga.

You got to be kidding me if you hate Frank Gehry so much than why don’t you do something about it. This shit talking on the internet is just a fucking game. If you got so much money then why the hell don’t you fucking replace his buildings instead of talking shit on the fucking internet. All you can do is vent, but instead of bitching like a little bitch then maybe you should start doing instead of talking so much fucking shit. Maybe that is all your good for is talking shit. (You sound like a fucking child.)

      -GET A LIFE-

Sounds like somebody likes to bitch and talk shit on the internet too.

I’m sure Mr. Gehry and all of his fans would be overjoyed to have you as their spokesman. Keep up the good work!

No there’s a differrence with talking shit like you, and telling you a piece of my mind. Why thank you? Unfortunately I don’t give a shit about being apart of any team. (I’m my own team.) I just speak my mind to those I feel needs it.

Busted, what’s your address? I would love to send you a few books on the English language and proper grammar. That way, when you share your opinions, you won’t look like such a dolt. Free of charge, it’s on me!

I don’t care if I’m using proper grammar or English, or what other people think of how I’m writing. I just care of telling you a piece of my mind. Oh you can send the books to 999 never mind!

    28. You Just Made My List!on 23 Oct 2010 at 8:20 am

Busted – You should care. Not caring about your own lack of intelligence is something to be ashamed of, not proud of. I despise people like you.

Your “piece of mind” is worthless when it comes from a piece if shit mind. If you ever want your opinions to be taken seriously you need to learn how to express them properly.

Unfortunately, you are stupid too understand. I’m not kidding at all about this. I’m honestly trying to give you some important advice but sadly I know your head is too far up your ass to understand.

      Your future is dim.

    29. BUSTED!on 25 Oct 2010 at 1:05 pm

My head is not to far up my ass, but i guess i know where to find yours. Lack of intelligence you got to be kidding me, why should i care about impressing you. I know if i really need to sound smart; i can be. I just wanted to tell you on how you were just acting like a little bitch. You despise people like me; someone who will just tell you how it is. Well to tell you the truth i don’t give a fuck about being your friend, and i don’t need your advice. At least in my future i won’t be acting like a little bitch.

    30. You Just Made My List!on 25 Oct 2010 at 5:43 pm

Busted – Sounds like you do care what I think because you can’t stop checking back to see what I have to say. Are you falling in love with me? You aren’t my type.

“I know if i really need to sound smart; i can be.”

Thank you for this. It might be the most hilariously ironic sentence ever written.

OK little bitch, let’s see if how much you don’t care about my opinion.

Frank Gehry buildings are ugly. They don’t have character to them and they are cold. Gehry’s buildings are strangly wierded out, off, and misshapen. Some of them look as if they are ready to fall over. It’s as if a 4 year old designed it. Anybody can put odd shaped boxes together. Hard to believe they consider gehry’s crap a design, whereas i think they are more like tinker toy designs. Now on the other hand, the early 1900’s craftsman style homes, or english cottages, and the spanish houses with charm, or the the old 1900’s bank buildings, anything that’s old and stands are really incredible. Now those are beauty’s. The art deco designs are gorgeous. One can see that care was taken into consideration when creating and designing the structures. Now that’s what i call an incredible design. Nothing is made this way anymore and now it’s cheaper to do up a few boxes like the Frank Gehry crap. People are just followers whenever their is a “big” discussion on how important his buildings are to landmarks. But whatever, it’s still the ugliest i have ever seen. They ought to use his designs for prisons.

Gehry is an awful quack only libeskind with his angles that reflect (supposedly) the horror of the holocaust is more of a prick (because the best way to reflect the worst event in history is a zany crazily shaped theme park)

As an architectural student I can safely say Gehry is a fist year who for some reason known only to god has had his random shapes actually built. If any architecture student submitted one of his designs the lectures would fail them, if not beat them to death.

To any of those who think Geary is great, how come those who have the misfortune to use his MIT building wish they were still in building 20 a 1940s wooden shed?

that clown gives architectural design a bad name.

    36. Luis Enriqueon 18 Dec 2010 at 8:14 am

As an Architect i want to say, what is interesting about Frank is that he dares to challenge many aspects of what we called order and simetry, I know that he study the surroundings, i know he understands the balance and all that..but!!…in my opinion, he forgets about the most important thing, he forgets about the responsability of being an architect and is to consider the people that is going to live, walk, work and contemplate the space and form of his creations, he forgets that the grotesque designs most of the time could never be integrated with the surroundings. That is frank`s signature, and even when for most people he is grotesque and no good, his contribution is that somebody was valiant enough to create something that in terms is not acceptable, but something valuable for young architects and students to understand how a perfect form is manipulated to it`s very imperfection.

    37. You Just Made My List!on 18 Dec 2010 at 10:32 am

Luis – I’m not used to well-written comments that scream about how much suck. Let me take a minute and enjoy this moment…

You are right, Gehry is selfish. Just look at the photo I posted of the back of his disgusting band shell in Chicago. It’s a total “fuck you” to the city. Make the front pretty (not in my opinion though) and let the backside look like shit because he’s too lazy to design something that is actually functional and beautiful. Frank Gehry cares about one thing, Frank Gehry’s money.

What were those idiots at MIT thinking? “Gee, a building with a convoluted design like this won’t have any problems at all.” Duh. They could have built something much simpler, with a classic or clean modern design, and saved a fortune, but no. Hey, it’s someone else’s money, so why not build something ugly by the famous guy. They got what they paid for. The nice thing about it is the building will probably fall apart much sooner than a more conventional building, and by then maybe saner people will be calling the shots.

    41. Bruno53on 16 Apr 2011 at 8:07 pm

I think Mohamed Atta, the one flying the jets against the World Trade Center in 2001, forgot to target all of Mr Frank Gehry’s ugly “buildings”. If we can call his stupid “buildings, buildings”. Was he drunk when he designed them? Somebody should dynamite such monstruosities!

    42. Xon 17 Apr 2011 at 12:53 am

Gehry has two building “designs” that he keeps repeating over and over:
1- Take a standard structure and wrap it in wavy and polished stainless steel. VoilĂ ! Art!
2- Take a picture of a building design from Italy, take
some acid, and try drawing it from memory. Yea, it’s all tilted and rippled looking, like something rejected from a Disneyworld exhibit, but he is an Artiste! It’s to highbrow for a peon to understand, so don’t even try.

What an overrated piece of crap… How did he get famous?

    43. Chi-Dinoon 10 May 2011 at 7:12 pm

Finally Someone is saying what I have been saying for years. Frank Gehry is a con artist who tricks stupid people into paying him for the biggest eyesores ever. When he did the original Santa Monica Place shopping mall, it was such a mess, they pulled anything that looked Gehryesque down.

Frank Gehry walks into bar, crumples a napkin, and says hey my next building!

    44. Bruno53on 03 Jun 2011 at 8:47 am

I’m glad there are so many others out there that share my dislike for Gehry’s (or Goldberg-that’s his real name until he changed it!) buildings. Everything looks the same. The Guggenheim Bilbao (he’s about to build another in Dubai!), Walt Disney, Pritzker, Fisher Center and the rest all look the same. I call it warped metal! His buildings don’t blend in with the surroundings; they are eyesores! The first time I saw his Pritzker Pavilion I thought a UFO had crash landed. And I have to say the back of that structure looks horrible. It looks half done; even baseball bleachers look better built than that. Has anyone seen I. M. Pei’s Miho Museum near Kyoto, Japan? It’s fantastic absolutely stunning! Now imagine what Gehry could have done. Probably another UFO crash landing!

Commenters here saying that Gehry’s designs are ‘beautiful” and giving it any praise must be trolling, because I find it hard to believe anyone with eyes would think these designs are anything but monstrosities that should be gotten rid of and never spoken of again.

    53. Sick of Gehryon 04 Mar 2012 at 12:52 pm

You know who really sucks Frank Gehry’s old, shriveled ass? Why, Blair Kamin of the Crib-bune, of course. He just LOVES everything this painfully-obvious egotist poops out. Maybe, someday, Chicago will have a REAL resident architecture critic… oh, wait — it already does! The PUBLIC!

    54. arkiteuthison 13 Apr 2012 at 11:01 am

I stumbled upon this website after looking for some thoughts on the work of Frank Gehry. Although I don’t particularly like his approach to design, I have to say this is definitely the most unintelligent conversation I have ever experienced about architecture. Bravo.

    55. You Just Made My List!on 13 Apr 2012 at 1:02 pm

arkiteuthis – Oh, I’m sorry little baby, did we forget to speak in hushed NPR tones about your precious architecture? Wow, what an elitist! I guess the rest of us morons don’t deserve the right to discuss architecture unless we do it the way you, the super intelligent architecture student (I’m guessing), wants us too.

Guess what, you arrogant, pretentious, pompous, holier-than-thou gasbag, you may hold your thirst for knowledge in high regard but let’s think about something for a second… your chosen method of research is the internet. You are going to talk down to ME and anyone who has commented on this subject when YOU aren’t even smart enough to realize you are on a stupid comedy website? Do you send hate mail to LOLCATS complaining about their poor grammar?

You think you are so smart? Then get off your lazy ass, go to the library and crack open a book. Would you want your doctor to seek knowledge and information from Google? I’m assuming you find yourself to be as intelligent as a doctor, that’s why I used that example.

What a boorish snob you are, I bet you are REAL fun at a party. Ever been invited to one?

Go shove yourself up Frank Gehry’s asshole! Intelligent enough for you?

    56. arkiteuthison 13 Apr 2012 at 1:43 pm

Haha, I’m just glad I got a rouse out of you. If having a logical debate on something (the topic is irrelevant) makes me an elitist, arrogant, pompous, holier-than-thou gasbag, then by all means, continue to glorify me (boorish snob) as being super intelligent. Just remember the difference between you and me is this is website is what you’ve put your best efforts into, while I am using it to waste some time in between classes. Don’t worry, I’ll take my high horse and ride off into the distance and, most likely, you’ll never think about this interchange again.

    57. You Just Made My List!on 13 Apr 2012 at 2:07 pm

arkiteuthis – Don’t try to back-peddle now and act like you were seeking a healthy debate, when the truth is you just wanted to insult me and anyone who left a comment. Don’t be a pussy, stand behind your comment.

Congrats on attempting one of the most predictable insults I hear… the good old “this website is all you got” line. Nice try. If only you could see the life I’m actually living. If it puts your elitist mind to rest then please continue to imagine me as a sad loser.

Eventually you will be older and you will look back on the days when you were young and thought you knew everything and you will be embarrassed.

Stop being a tool and you might have a chance at life.

    58. Chris McCoyon 16 May 2012 at 10:00 am

From the perspective of someone that DOES know architecture and DOES understand design, I can say I agree with you completely. His works do “suck ass”.

His work is different, so there will always be an avant-garde cadre that will want to praise him for being different. From an architectural standpoint, his designs are ONLY different and do not really add to or blend in with the environment they are built for. They don’t harmonize. They aren’t pleasing to the eye. They don’t provide a sense of wonder or belonging. They generally create the emotion of confusion, a little wonder, a photo op, and then nothing.

If Gehry’s designs were regarded highly by the rest of the architectural world, you would have seen imitators and apprentices by now. You don’t. Instead, you mostly hear silence from his peers. They don’t want to be on record regarding how retarded and solely commercial his designs are (He’s the Kinkaid of his field) but they all feel that way. His style will disappear the moment he dies.

Someone in here said “Old buildings leak”. This is only true if their maintenance is not kept up. New buildings DON’T leak, especially a building less than 10 years old. MANY Gehry buildings leak, have hot and cold spots, and unused areas that make no sense. He is the antithesis of a good Architect, but he is popular with civic leaders because people always come to see his freak show after it is built.

So yes, he does in fact “suck ass”.

    59. Chris McCoyon 16 May 2012 at 10:49 am

Oh, and “BROOKE IN ALL CAPS”

I have been in the Disney concert hall MANY times. It has horrible acoustics (not anymore but it took a lot to tune the place) it has many spaces that are never utilized inside because they serve no purpose (waste). It has a leaky roof. It requires constant maintenance because the steel outside expands and contracts more than anticipated. The cooling system is inadequate in the summer because it cools spaces 30ft above the living spaces but never cools the common areas. Access to the building is poor because there was no accommodation for parking beyond the Ahmanson across the street (which itself is an EXCELLENT design I still love to visit over Gehry’s). There is no redeeming quality to the DCH other than the fact it looks weird and houses the LA Phil.

Gehry is the worst thing that exists today in architecture. The ignorance of not understanding that the widespread use of steel or titanium or any other metal to cover the buildings makes it look like beer cans. A paradox to use the expensive titanium and find that it is not material to architecture because it still brings up the poor construction and not a soul without elegance. The metal has always been used for finishing and so it is best to continue. The original forms? From Gaudi to Borromini there was evidence that the originality and innovation are such only if they are beautiful. Proportions taste and clever use of materials are all features that are lacking in this architect that demonstrates only a waste of money in the trash

Frank Gehry challenges order and symmetry the way George W. Bush challenged intelligence and learning.

A bunch of windows popped out on the South and the East side of the Gehry building that is near the Brooklyn Bridge during Hurricane Sandy. What a piece of crap building!

To all those who characterize Gehry as not knowing what he is doing, that is just not true. He knows exactly what he is doing. As Luis pointed out, he challenges order and symmetry. Unfortunately for Gehry, order and symmetry win every time.

And to those who say it is cheap junk, it may be junk but it cannot be cheap to build those shapes.

But you see, there’s this little thing called the human nervous system, and there’s this other thing called the human social system. Gehry is so smart he can outsmart his own nervous system, and his clients are so rich they can outweigh the social system. And then there are the pseuds and the sycophants, But the neurons and the societies just keep saying “WTF? the emperor has no clothes.”

Frank Gehry is just another asshole “starchitect” who cares more about his twisted vision of how the world should look and less about the neighbourhoods surrounding his eye-sores. The mark of a truly brilliant architect is the ability to design a building that, while still being new and innovative, draws inspiration from and pays homage to the other landmarks and buildings close by, such as the Carnegie Hall Tower or 15 Central Park West. It’s a very humble approach to architecture, acknowledging those who came before you. Of course, modern day “starchitects”, like Frank Gehry, are not humble creatures by nature. Their goal in life is to make sure that their buildings, whether you hate them or not, will stick out like a sore thumb, forcing you to remember them for the rest of your life. It’s almost as if they all suffer from serious abandonment issues, as their buildings seem to scream out, “look at me now, dad! You can’t ignore me now!” Frank Gehry, you’re a dick…

Seeing the building up close- it looks as if the wind is going to topple it over. materials are not going to last long. Several more years it will look like a bigger pile of crumbled up soda cans.

Gehry’s approach to architecture, although maybe unique, is utterly selfish. When you look at great architects of today like Renzo Piano, Rem Koolhaas and Sir Norman Foster their approach to every project is different. They do not neccessarily have a style but rather they design each project with thought for surrounding, history and innovation. Ultimately and mostly they create functional, socially enhancing, beautiful pieces of architecture, with each building unique. Gehry and Daniel Libenskind had promise. Look at the Jewish Museum in Berlin. But they quickly proved to produce selfish “works of art” that have a meaningless style that hold no real function other than aesthetics and advertising for their firms.

Exactly! If I was smarter I would have said that stuff too.

Frank Gehry is no more an architect than I am an artist playing hangman with crayons.

Gehry’s new Manhattan tower is hideous! Architecture is a marriage of function and form. Gehry’s approach is form over function.

    72. You Just Made My List!on 24 Oct 2013 at 9:29 pm

And is it REALLY even form. His buildings are ugly as shit. That’s an insult to actual shit. His buildings are UGLIER than shit.
