Frank Gehry and his piece of shit, ugly ass buildings!

Published by at 3:00 am under I Don't Get It,Jerks,Why?!?

I haven’t even finished typing this sentence and already my blood is boiling from having to look at this ass clown’s shitty building. I mean look at this crooked hunk of crap he designed for The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Is he blind but nobody wants to hurt his feelings? Maybe he’s like that kid from The Twilight Zone who can turn you into a donkey or a house plant with his mind if you make him mad or disagree with him. Or maybe he’s like a drunk frat boy who wakes up after a weekend of beer-bonging and realizes “Shit dude, I totally have a building design due today!”

The best part about this building? M.I.T. had to sue Frank Gehry because this tangled mess leaks and generally sucks ass. It literally says “sucks ass” in the lawsuit!

Don’t try and tell me he’s breaking new ground and pushing the envelope because you are wrong. Frank Gehry is concerned with one thing, Frank Gehry’s checkbook. He knows he can literally take a dump on a table and some stupid mayor who is afraid of looking uncool will agree to spend $500 million to build a turd-shaped building. Have you ever seen the back of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and Bandshell in Chicago? If you think the front is ugly, which it is, take a look at the back sometime and you will see a perfect illustration of how fucking lazy this jerk is.

Fuck Frank Gehry! I’m right and I know everything.

That Bernie Madoff lookalike is just as much the con artist.

FINALLY! Someone else said it!I thought I was the only one who thought these buildings were the ugliest piece of shit ever!Frank Gehry’s “architecture”(and I use the term loosely) is a bane on humanity. Why does this guy get any praise? Are people blind?

Some of his buildings look like crumpled up garbage, literally.Ever crumpled up a piece of paper and tossed it on the floor.THAT’S what many of his building look like.Gehry has got to be the worst architect in the world.Did he go to school to be an architect? If so, how did he graduate?

Commenters here saying that Gehry’s designs are ‘beautiful” and giving it any praise must be trolling, because I find it hard to believe anyone with eyes would think these designs are anything but monstrosities that should be gotten rid of and never spoken of again.

You know who really sucks Frank Gehry’s old, shriveled ass? Why, Blair Kamin of the Crib-bune, of course. He just LOVES everything this painfully-obvious egotist poops out. Maybe, someday, Chicago will have a REAL resident architecture critic… oh, wait — it already does! The PUBLIC!

I stumbled upon this website after looking for some thoughts on the work of Frank Gehry. Although I don’t particularly like his approach to design, I have to say this is definitely the most unintelligent conversation I have ever experienced about architecture. Bravo.

arkiteuthis – Oh, I’m sorry little baby, did we forget to speak in hushed NPR tones about your precious architecture? Wow, what an elitist! I guess the rest of us morons don’t deserve the right to discuss architecture unless we do it the way you, the super intelligent architecture student (I’m guessing), wants us too.

Guess what, you arrogant, pretentious, pompous, holier-than-thou gasbag, you may hold your thirst for knowledge in high regard but let’s think about something for a second… your chosen method of research is the internet. You are going to talk down to ME and anyone who has commented on this subject when YOU aren’t even smart enough to realize you are on a stupid comedy website? Do you send hate mail to LOLCATS complaining about their poor grammar?

You think you are so smart? Then get off your lazy ass, go to the library and crack open a book. Would you want your doctor to seek knowledge and information from Google? I’m assuming you find yourself to be as intelligent as a doctor, that’s why I used that example.

What a boorish snob you are, I bet you are REAL fun at a party. Ever been invited to one?

Go shove yourself up Frank Gehry’s asshole! Intelligent enough for you?

  6. arkiteuthison 13 Apr 2012 at 1:43 pm

Haha, I’m just glad I got a rouse out of you. If having a logical debate on something (the topic is irrelevant) makes me an elitist, arrogant, pompous, holier-than-thou gasbag, then by all means, continue to glorify me (boorish snob) as being super intelligent. Just remember the difference between you and me is this is website is what you’ve put your best efforts into, while I am using it to waste some time in between classes. Don’t worry, I’ll take my high horse and ride off into the distance and, most likely, you’ll never think about this interchange again.

  7. You Just Made My List!on 13 Apr 2012 at 2:07 pm

arkiteuthis – Don’t try to back-peddle now and act like you were seeking a healthy debate, when the truth is you just wanted to insult me and anyone who left a comment. Don’t be a pussy, stand behind your comment.

Congrats on attempting one of the most predictable insults I hear… the good old “this website is all you got” line. Nice try. If only you could see the life I’m actually living. If it puts your elitist mind to rest then please continue to imagine me as a sad loser.

Eventually you will be older and you will look back on the days when you were young and thought you knew everything and you will be embarrassed.

Stop being a tool and you might have a chance at life.

From the perspective of someone that DOES know architecture and DOES understand design, I can say I agree with you completely. His works do “suck ass”.

His work is different, so there will always be an avant-garde cadre that will want to praise him for being different. From an architectural standpoint, his designs are ONLY different and do not really add to or blend in with the environment they are built for. They don’t harmonize. They aren’t pleasing to the eye. They don’t provide a sense of wonder or belonging. They generally create the emotion of confusion, a little wonder, a photo op, and then nothing.

If Gehry’s designs were regarded highly by the rest of the architectural world, you would have seen imitators and apprentices by now. You don’t. Instead, you mostly hear silence from his peers. They don’t want to be on record regarding how retarded and solely commercial his designs are (He’s the Kinkaid of his field) but they all feel that way. His style will disappear the moment he dies.

Someone in here said “Old buildings leak”. This is only true if their maintenance is not kept up. New buildings DON’T leak, especially a building less than 10 years old. MANY Gehry buildings leak, have hot and cold spots, and unused areas that make no sense. He is the antithesis of a good Architect, but he is popular with civic leaders because people always come to see his freak show after it is built.

So yes, he does in fact “suck ass”.

Oh, and “BROOKE IN ALL CAPS”

I have been in the Disney concert hall MANY times. It has horrible acoustics (not anymore but it took a lot to tune the place) it has many spaces that are never utilized inside because they serve no purpose (waste). It has a leaky roof. It requires constant maintenance because the steel outside expands and contracts more than anticipated. The cooling system is inadequate in the summer because it cools spaces 30ft above the living spaces but never cools the common areas. Access to the building is poor because there was no accommodation for parking beyond the Ahmanson across the street (which itself is an EXCELLENT design I still love to visit over Gehry’s). There is no redeeming quality to the DCH other than the fact it looks weird and houses the LA Phil.

Chris – See, I told everyone!

  11. Kurtzon 12 Jun 2012 at 4:27 am

Gehry is the worst thing that exists today in architecture. The ignorance of not understanding that the widespread use of steel or titanium or any other metal to cover the buildings makes it look like beer cans. A paradox to use the expensive titanium and find that it is not material to architecture because it still brings up the poor construction and not a soul without elegance. The metal has always been used for finishing and so it is best to continue. The original forms? From Gaudi to Borromini there was evidence that the originality and innovation are such only if they are beautiful. Proportions taste and clever use of materials are all features that are lacking in this architect that demonstrates only a waste of money in the trash

Frank Gehry challenges order and symmetry the way George W. Bush challenged intelligence and learning.

A bunch of windows popped out on the South and the East side of the Gehry building that is near the Brooklyn Bridge during Hurricane Sandy. What a piece of crap building!

  15. priscianus jron 13 Dec 2012 at 10:49 pm

To all those who characterize Gehry as not knowing what he is doing, that is just not true. He knows exactly what he is doing. As Luis pointed out, he challenges order and symmetry. Unfortunately for Gehry, order and symmetry win every time.

And to those who say it is cheap junk, it may be junk but it cannot be cheap to build those shapes.

But you see, there’s this little thing called the human nervous system, and there’s this other thing called the human social system. Gehry is so smart he can outsmart his own nervous system, and his clients are so rich they can outweigh the social system. And then there are the pseuds and the sycophants, But the neurons and the societies just keep saying “WTF? the emperor has no clothes.”

Frank Gehry is just another asshole “starchitect” who cares more about his twisted vision of how the world should look and less about the neighbourhoods surrounding his eye-sores. The mark of a truly brilliant architect is the ability to design a building that, while still being new and innovative, draws inspiration from and pays homage to the other landmarks and buildings close by, such as the Carnegie Hall Tower or 15 Central Park West. It’s a very humble approach to architecture, acknowledging those who came before you. Of course, modern day “starchitects”, like Frank Gehry, are not humble creatures by nature. Their goal in life is to make sure that their buildings, whether you hate them or not, will stick out like a sore thumb, forcing you to remember them for the rest of your life. It’s almost as if they all suffer from serious abandonment issues, as their buildings seem to scream out, “look at me now, dad! You can’t ignore me now!” Frank Gehry, you’re a dick…

  17. johnon 19 Apr 2013 at 2:03 pm

Seeing the building up close- it looks as if the wind is going to topple it over. materials are not going to last long. Several more years it will look like a bigger pile of crumbled up soda cans.

  18. GavinMon 14 May 2013 at 9:32 am

Gehry’s approach to architecture, although maybe unique, is utterly selfish. When you look at great architects of today like Renzo Piano, Rem Koolhaas and Sir Norman Foster their approach to every project is different. They do not neccessarily have a style but rather they design each project with thought for surrounding, history and innovation. Ultimately and mostly they create functional, socially enhancing, beautiful pieces of architecture, with each building unique. Gehry and Daniel Libenskind had promise. Look at the Jewish Museum in Berlin. But they quickly proved to produce selfish “works of art” that have a meaningless style that hold no real function other than aesthetics and advertising for their firms.

  19. You Just Made My List!on 14 May 2013 at 2:32 pm

Exactly! If I was smarter I would have said that stuff too.

  20. Frank Penceon 20 Jul 2013 at 11:08 am

Frank Gehry is no more an architect than I am an artist playing hangman with crayons.

  21. mrwangon 24 Oct 2013 at 9:04 pm

Gehry’s new Manhattan tower is hideous! Architecture is a marriage of function and form. Gehry’s approach is form over function.

  22. You Just Made My List!on 24 Oct 2013 at 9:29 pm

And is it REALLY even form. His buildings are ugly as shit. That’s an insult to actual shit. His buildings are UGLIER than shit.
